A March 2024 study in the British Medical Journal linked prolonged Depo-Provera use to a significantly elevated risk of meningioma brain tumors.

Despite this documented risk, Pfizer did not update Depo-Provera's warning label until late 2025 — years after the evidence became clear. Women who developed meningioma or suffered irreversible bone mineral density loss from extended use now have the right to pursue compensation through the federal court system.

What Is the Depo-Provera Lawsuit About?

Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) is a hormonal contraceptive injection manufactured by Pfizer. The lawsuits allege that Pfizer failed to warn prescribers and patients that prolonged use causes meningioma — benign but potentially dangerous brain tumors — and irreversible bone mineral density loss.

MDL-3140 was formed in February 2025 and is before Judge M. Casey Rodgers in the Northern District of Florida. Over 930 federal cases are pending as of early 2026.
